Copper State is a family-owned boat rental company that was founded in 2020 as a reaction to the tribulations of the COVID-19 pandemic. “We wanted to bring the excitement and fun of wake surfing and being outdoors to as many people as possible during such an unprecedented time,” says co-owner, James. “People wanted to focus on creating happy memories; they were eager to enjoy themselves. I wanted to give them an outlet for creating new, positive memories.” Growing up, James frequented lakes with his family around the country, and together they explored their affinity for water sports. For both co-owners, boating became an activity that was synonymous with family and fun. Joining together with his father, Tim, the two created an outlet for exciting water activities that have since reached many families all over Arizona. “We’ve rented to many people,” says Tim. “Not one person has left our boats without a smile on their face. This is why we do what we do.”
Two years later, Copper State has grown and expanded its fleet. Their wake surfing boat, a 23-foot MasterCraft Maristar VHS, nicknamed “The Black Pearl”, houses a sleek 350 horsepower Corvette engine and four FatSacs. In total, the FatSacs can hold 4,000 pounds of water, driving the back of the boat further into the water to create the perfect wake. If wake surfing is not your style, Copper State also offers two inflatable “doughnuts” that can be towed behind the boat, holding up to three people for hysterical fun.
“Our motto is ‘Adrenaline or leisure, go Copper State,’” James says. “We want our renters to know that we offer much more than one type of boat.” In addition to the pearl of their fleet, Copper State owns a 21-foot Sea-Ray Signature Bowrider 210 that is available to rent throughout the year. This boat boasts a 350 horsepower Mercruiser Outboard and is ideal for relaxing leisure trips to the lake. However, the boat is fitted with two tandem skis and one slalom ski, making it able to accommodate exhilarating water sports as well as leisure trips.
In addition to Copper State’s impressive fleet, the father and son co-owners also own four 2021 iRocker 10’6” Paddleboards and a 2020 Sea-Doo Spark Trixx Jet Ski. The Paddleboards can be rented as a set of 4 for $80 per day. They are perfect for a calm glide along the gentle bays of Arizona’s lakes. The jet ski comes fitted with a personal speaker, so you and one other person can listen to your jams while riding the waves.
Copper State was founded on the burgeoning movement to share boating with more people by making it more accessible to spend time on the water. “By providing our fleet for less money than our bigger competitors, we can share the joys of boating with more people for less”, James confirms. “This is one of the biggest reasons why I started Copper State. I want people to experience the joys I know so well from being on a boat.” Since 2020, James and Tim have been sharing this joy with many happy customers.
